together and apart Sep 3, 2024
the fungus tendrils pry the cells apart
several birds spaced unevenly on a branch
one leaves and one arrives
design is the act of putting things together
an orbit is falling down a loop
bound gravitationally, two bodies, one system
i reach out to touch you in my mind
in the physical world, you are gone and yet
a part of me is a part of you, symmetrical, a voice, a face
some thing which cannot be known, cannot be named
a particle is a knot in the fabric of spacetime
continually turning within itself, falling in a loop
a vortex bound under its own power
we are bound and we are separated, entangled
this veil of imagination lies over the world
my hands on the tree branches of fate, of power
who am i? am i awake? let me count the ways i understand
and the ways i understand blot out the sun
and i fumble in the dark of my own understanding
the light streaming over me, through me, pouring down my back
and the leaves receive it, and the spine twists toward it
and the sky blue is the ocean blue is the blood of life
and i and the other and god lay out in the field beyond good and evil
where we meet at the end of time, which is now
and the end of space, which is here
finding that all this time and all this long journey
we have been
and we still are
together and apart
