cherry tomato Apr 18, 2010

When I was a child, my mother grew cherry tomato plants in our back yard. The smell of a tomato plant is an unmistakeable pungent green. You can stand next to a tomato plant and search its branches for delicious red spheres, pull them right off the plant, and pop them into your mouth. They are better than strawberries. If you like salt, bring a salt shaker and a knife with you. Carefully cut a tomato in half. You can hold both halves wet-side-up between three fingers of one hand, if you are dexterous. Salt them. You know you have enough salt when you eat them and there is the bite of salt followed by the cool subtle green of the tomato.
