Poetry is not a riddle with a single answer Aug 17, 2011

I WANT MY POEMS TO BE LIKE MIRRORS
TO BE AS REAL AS THE WORLD AND AS EMPTY
REFLECTING THE VIEWER IN PERFECT---

NO MY POEMS ARE LIKE MOMENTS IN TIME
FUTILE ATTEMPTS TO CAPTURE BUTTERFLIES
IN THE BACK YARD OF MY LIFE

MY POEMS PHASE IN BETWEEN IMAGERY AND PHILOSOPHY
STRAINING AGAINST THE FILM BETWEEN READER AND WRITER
ATTEMPTING TO CONVEY SOMETHING ... BUT WHAT ?

A POEM TO ME IS A PIECE OF CHICKEN
RENT FROM THE LIVING BIRD AND ROASTED
TO BE SAVORED IN CANDLELIGHT

MY POEMS ARE ONLY FOR ME
YOU CAN READ THEM THAT IS FINE
BUT I DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND

NEWFOUNDLAND COMPULSORILY DAEMONS CORNCOB CRANKIER ELECTOR FIBERGLASS
ROUTING RADIOACTIVE UNITE SIRLOIN KERRY ALERTNESS COLUMBIA
MISIDENTIFIED DUBBED LECTURER BIENNIALS MELT

A POEM TO ME IS A PLAY OF WORDS
CAUGHT IN THE CURTAIN LIKE A FLY BEFORE THE AUDIENCE
AND LIQUEFIED INSIDE TO BE DEVOURED AT A LATER DATE (APPLAUSE)

MY POEMS ARE FULL OF BARBS WHICH CATCH YOUR SKIRT
AND CAUSE YOU TO HAVE TO GO BACK A LINE OR TWO
TO SORT OUT WHAT JUST HAPPENED

POEM IS AS GOD ART AND LOVE A WORD TOO FULL
AND AS SUCH MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT SOME GROUNDING EXAMPLE
LIKE A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT WITHOUT AN EMPIRE STATE BUILDING

A POEM IS A PAINTING OF A WORD
THAT IS FADED AND BOXED IN THE BASEMENT OF A MUSEUM
WHICH YOU FIND AND ENTER AND EXPLORE

LOCK THIS NODE BEFORE IT DESTROYS ITSELF
AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY
NUKE THIS WRITEUP
